Public Voting Open November 3 - November 6, 2023 | Vote Here Now!

Returning for 2023, The Sunset Project presents its second annual FOCUS45 Amateur Photography Contest as part of its FOCUS45 creative advancement programming efforts. This year's contest will provide Northeast Michigan area photographers with another opportunity to showcase their work to win thousands of dollars worth of gear and other prizes!
Contest Details

Beginning October 1, 2023 at 10 AM EST, contestants will have one month to submit a photo that they believe best represents this year's theme through the online submission portal found below. Contestants must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to have their submissions accepted and considered:

  • Contestants must be 14 years of age or older

  • Contestants must reside in one or more of the following counties: Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle, Iosco, Oscoda, Montmorency, Ogemaw

  • All contestants must be considered amateur photographers (not regularly compensated for photography knowledge or skills)

Once the online submission portal closes on November 1, 2023 at 10 AM EST, all submitted photos will be uploaded to an online voting platform where the general public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite(s) over the course of 48 hours. The seven contestants with the most online votes will be selected to attend an invite-only private gala at Art in the Loft on the evening of November 18, 2023, where their works will be framed and put on display.

During the gala, a panel of photography professionals and community members will assign place rankings to the photos they feel had the best composition, look, and understanding of the theme. Once the panel has selected place rankings for submissions, The Sunset Project will be awarding over $2,500 worth of prizes, including camera kits, B&H Photography Shop gift cards, and more!
